Carrier review

ACE Medicare Supplement

We are appointed to represent ACE. This page explains what the company actually is, what it is good at, and what to check before you buy — not what its brochure says.

Insurance Company of North America (INA)

ACE is one of the Chubb brands writing Medicare Supplement, sold alongside INA and sharing the same corporate parent and underwriting philosophy. The plan lineup is deliberately narrow, Plans A, F, G and N, which covers what almost everyone actually buys now that Plan F is closed to newly eligible beneficiaries. Because ACE and INA sit under one parent but file as separate companies, they can produce two different prices for identical coverage, and it is worth pricing both before choosing a letter.

Same corporate family

Each company in this group writes its own policies and files its own rates, so each one has a separate page:

Why consider ACE

  • Chubb's financial strength behind a long-duration policy.
  • A tight plan lineup with no confusing extras, so the comparison stays about premium and rate history.
  • Household discounts where state filings allow them.

What to check first

  • The legal entity matters. ACE policies are issued by a Chubb subsidiary whose exact name varies, and each files its own rates.
  • Plans K, L and M are generally not part of the lineup, so if you want a cost-sharing letter this is not the carrier for it.
  • Like INA, the Medigap block is young. Ask for whatever increase history exists rather than assuming the parent's reputation carries over.

How we compare this carrier against the rest

Medigap benefits are standardized by federal law, so a Plan G from ACE covers exactly what a Plan G from any other carrier covers. That leaves five things worth comparing, and we check all five before making a recommendation:

  • The filed premium at your age, ZIP code, and tobacco status
  • The last five years of rate increases on the exact plan and block
  • Whether pricing is attained-age, issue-age, or community-rated
  • Household, spousal, and multi-policy discounts you qualify for
  • The issuing legal entity, since one brand can hold several blocks

Common questions

Before you apply

Is this carrier cheaper than the others?
Sometimes, and only for a specific age, ZIP code, tobacco status, and household. Medigap benefits are identical by plan letter, so price is the only real variable — which is why we quote the whole market rather than publishing a number that goes stale.
Can I be turned down for health reasons?
Outside your six-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period, and outside any state-specific rights such as a birthday rule, yes. Carriers use medical underwriting and can decline or rate you up.
What happens to my rate over time?
The carrier files increases with your state insurance department, and they apply to your whole block of business. A carrier with a history of double-digit annual increases is expensive even when the first year looks cheap.
